[ AIRED Aug 23, 2002 to Apr 2, 2004 //] SYNOPSIS
Ungrar, the King of Viruses, has escaped from his prison cell in Vaccine World. Maya, the Goddess of Vaccine World sends Mugimaru down to Earth to find a human to accept the powers of Vaccine World and become the Magical Nurse. He finds the best (and the only willing) person for the job when he meets Komugi Nakahara. Komugi is a playful, lazy, and easily distracted (typical) teenager whose dream is to become a cosplay idol. Balancing her career with the Kiri-Pro Promotion Company and her new job battling Ungrar's loyal henchman, the Magical Maid Koyori, Komugi delights audiences in this parody anime series.
Nurse Witch Komugi is one of those shows you pick up out of the blue. In my case, I found it at the local Disc Replay when searching for random anime DVDs to pick up. I thought the show looked cute, and immediately fell in love with it. The character design and art style was adorable and had the perfect early 2000s moe touch that I'd been missing. The premise was super simple, and the tropes were so overdone and exaggerated that it was genuinely hilarious. The songs were catchy, and the show is so rewatchable. I just love Komugi!
The amount of Komugi stuff online has dwindled so much since it's original run date. It's vaguely remembered in those animecore tumblr cirlces but that's the only time I hear about it. It's sad because it's genuinely a good anime. As someone who isn't familiar with the material it parodies (The SoulTaker), I sort of wonder if Komugi is more known in that circle.
There was a reboot in 2016 that completely changed the art style from Poyoyon Rock's moe classic style to what I can only describe as a neutered attempt at moe art. The show was BAD and that's why you won't see it in this shrine. That's all I will say on the matter.
